El'Areos by squirrel-san El'Areos by squirrel-san
Well, talk about a long time in the making. Still he's finished now. El'Areos, who uses the rule for Farsight. Mostly this was just a for fun project, I doubt I'll use him much in battle if at all, because he does not suit my style of play, but I wanted to do a more unusual Crisis suit that was still game legal.

As you can probably see, the head of El'Areos is heavily influenced by Briareos Hecatonchires, because I like him, but I kept it Tau looking rather than try to replicate Briareos exactly.

The sword, as I have mentioned elsewhere is heavily influenced by Micheal Turner's Fathom, an energy blade projected in the hilt up the back rail, however when painting I could never get it looking how I imagined it in my head and eventually gave up and went for a more simple paint job that wasn't amazing, but looked good enough that it didn't let down the rest of the model which I am rather proud of.

Oh GOD it looks beautyful... It's gonna take me years till I'll be able to do anything like that with my models. Now I can't even glue and greenstuff torsos of my Crisis suits so that they look OK and have no gaps or scratches...

Well there's not a shread of green stuff on him. Al you really need is a well stocked bitz box, a bit of imagination and a careful hand. Most of the work is just battle damage and you don't even need a careful hand for that. I really should upload some of my current work, although it's mostly Raven Guard these days.

Looking through your gallery, I have to say: nicely done! I like the way the battlesuit's weapons are skewed at random angles. It gives movement, and I never thought about it, but they must track their targets. :D
Great job.

Yeah, I've always liked the idea of mounted weapons tracking whatever the operator is looking at, like the Predators shoulder gun or an attack helicopter's chin gun. I just copied that idea to make sure any shoulder mounted weapon or optical sensor is pointed at the same thing as the head. Arms are controlled seperately by the operator of course.

apple seed meets tau... interesting concept. and nicely excecuted.
the battle scars really really pull this together.
what did you use for the shield. it looks kinda like one of those scouting droid things

It is indeed a gun drone with the holes on the top filled.

I like to battle damage all my Tau as a contrast to their simple and bold colour scheme. Of course the damage level varies depending on the model, and a close up combat suit this guy is particularly damages, whereas O'Ukos, the leader, with his shield, bodyguard and long ranged tactics, as well as being the most experienced warrior is the least damaged suit in my army.

yea that makes sense. most people don't think about stuff like that.
